Since this is a pet blog, you can probably guess that it is some kind of dog or cat breed, and you would be right. Snorkies, also called scherriers, are a cross between Yorkshire terriers and miniature schnauzers. Although both parents may be registered in their respective breeds, snorkies are not considered purebreds, they are designer hybrids or mixed breed dogs.
Snorkies are small dogs and weight between 7 to 14 lbs. and stand about 5 to 12 inches in height. They are intelligent, energetic and sometimes feisty little furballs that love to play games. They do get rather cranky when they wind down, however, so families with young children should keep this in mind.
Aside from their compact size, which is great for city dwellers, they are very light shedders which is an advantage especially for people with dander allergies. On the downside, however, these bundles of joy are high maintenance in the grooming department. They need frequent combing, haircuts and nail trimming.
If you decide a snorkie is right for your family, be ready to pay as much as $600. Remember they are not a pedigreed breed and unscrupulous puppy-mill folks will take advantage of you in a heartbeat if you don’t do your homework. If you bring one of these darlings home, expect to have them in your life for up to 16 years. Like many small dogs, they have a long life expectancy.
